Last night, I dragged Sean and Ethan along with me to check out this band Particle at the Paradise Rock Club. I first heard of Particle as one of the acts playing at the Bonnaroo Music Festival earlier this summer. Recently, one of the users of Livephish.org sent me a recording of one of their live shows and I loved it. So, when I found out they were coming to town I made it a high priority to check them out.

Particle is an amazing band. They are four guys; keyboards, guitar, bass and drums. Their music is a mix of styles from rock to funk to electronica. According to their bio, “Their music has been described as ‘Space Porn’: a unique blend of high-octant funk and electronic soundscapes.” Many of the songs are jams that last nearly 15 minutes each and are full of all sorts of builds, breaks, and tranfers. It would really be impossible to bind them to a single musical genre.

They have a visual artist mixing various pieces of stock footage with live feeds from a number of digital cameras setup around the stage, displaying on a large screen (actually, large white bedsheets) next ot he stage. The show is all about positive energy. They love to play. They played for nearly an hour and 45 minutes, and that was just the first set! They came back out 20 minutes later for another hour and a quarter. We didn’t get out of the place until after 1:30 in the morning. And all that for $10.

If you like jams then you should check out Particle. They do not disappoint.
