In a few hours, we’re going to head towards Long Island, where we will spend the weekend relaxing and playing in the outdoors and just generally having a good time. Our original plan was to go to the Field Day Festival in Calverton, but that thing turned into a complete mess. After all the work they put into preparing for the event, they didn’t secure a mass gathering permit and ultimately had to cancel the festival.
They have moved things to Giant’s Stadium and reduced the list of acts to less than half of the original 35. Since Giant’s Stadium is, well, a stadium, it’s not really appropriate to try and have two bands playing simultaneously in there, so they’ve created a second stage in the parking lot where they not-so-big names will be performing. So, considering what a disaster this thing has been and how completely different it is going to be from what we signed up for, we are bailing. Screw Field Day. Screw Ticketmaster. We are getting our money completely refunded and we’re going to find other things to do.
One thing that really bugs me is the fact that if someone had told me that Radiohead and the Beastie Boys and Beck and Liz Phair and Particle would be performing at Giant’s Stadium this weekend and I could buy tickets for only $80, I would have jumped on it. However, since I bought tickets for an outdoor festival and have had to deal with all the uncertainty and lawsuits and lack of security of planning of the event over the last few weeks, I only really see this Giant’s Stadium thing as a huge letdown at this point.
No matter. Field Day Festival is in the past. The future is Long Island Wildin’. I’m psyched.
