Lately, I’ve been doing a lot more traveling than usual. Of the last six weekends, I only spent one in Boston. I meant to blog about all my travels and other events but it was too difficult to keep up. So, here it is all in one post…

This weekend, I am happily staying in Boston to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend some time riding bikes.

The Saturday after the Ninja Tune show, Genevieve, Lisa, John and I went to the Orpheum for a live stand-up performance from Jon “The Daily Show with” Stewart. Man, it was such a great concert! Jon was every bit as quick, hilarious and intelligent as he is on the show. He speaks a lot about his politics and I really feel like he and I are on the same page with just about every topic he hits. This was probably one of the most enjoyable comedy performances I’ve ever experienced. It was a great followup to the Lewis Black and Mitch Hedberg (also Dave Attell) show that we saw at the same theater last year. Rock on Comedy Central!

As I’ve mentioned in the past, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross of Mr. Show with Bob and David have been making a concerted effort to get the word out about their work in the hopes of getting their movie, Run Ronnie Run, released in theaters. First, there was the release of the first and second seasons of Mr. Show on DVD last April and the appearances on the Daily Show, Conan O’Brien, and Carson Daly. Then there was David’s Spring/Summer comedy tour. They followed that up with the Hooray for America tour where they performed Mr. Show live in major cities all across the country. There is even talk of another leg of the tour sometime next year. Then, during the tour, there was the release of the Mr. Show Book, by Bob’s wife, Naomi Odenkirk.

Tomorrow, the next installment of the Bob and David saga is released. A live CD from David’s Spring/Summer tour is being released on Sub Pop Records. “Shut Up You Fucking Baby” is a 2-disc set and it’s the first comedy album ever released by Sub Pop. That’s not all! David is going to be appearing on Late Night with Conan O’Brien this Friday, most likely in promotion of the CD. So don’t forget to check it out.

Also, if you’re a fan of Mr. Show cast member Sarah Silverman (Greg the Bunny, Crank Yankers), don’t miss the Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Friday (before Conan). She’s scheduled to appear, and I’m assuming (hoping) she’ll be doing a stand-up performance.

Don’t cry. That wasn’t directed at you. But it is the title of the upcoming Sub Pop double album by David Cross. Yes, that David Cross! The album was recorded during David’s spring tour, which featured open acts Arlo and Ultrababyfat. Due in stores November 5th, “Shut Up” is the first comedy release from Sub Pop.

With the Mr. Show DVD, released early last month, the Hooray for America! tour beginning in mid September, David’s appearance in Men In Black 2, numerous recent television appearances (Conan O’Brien, Jon Stewart, Carson Daly), and now this upcoming David Cross album, Bob and David are really taking the world by storm. There are also rumors of David hosting the Sup Pop showcase during the CMJ Music Festival in October and then a possible solo tour in support of the album. All that, coupled with the fact that a recent showing of Run Ronnie Run at the CineVegas festival got rave reviews, could mean that Ronnie will be in theaters some time in the next year!

I have some really amazing news. I’m having trouble containing myself. But before I say what it is, I want to talk about Stewart and Conan.

Last night, Bod Odenkirk and David Cross appeared on both the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Both appearances were to plug the new Mr. Show DVD that was released on June 4th (and which is totally excellent). I believe they also taped an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly which airs on June 24th.

They only got a couple of minutes on the Daily Show, as is always the case, but they were pretty funny.

On Conan, however, their segment was excellent. They did some hilarious bits about the DVD, including a fake commentary clip of them saying stuff like “Hey Bob, check it out, I’m on TV! That’s awesome!” Then, they showed a second commentary about the first commentary with stuff like “David, I really like the way you expressed your feelings about how you saw yourself on TV” and where they explained the “making of” the first commentary. Classic Bob and David humor. I have both shows saved on my Tivo if people didn’t get a chance to see them last night.

Now, for the news. It was announced on their website a few weeks ago that Bob and David might be doing a live tour of some sort. Well, sure enough, they are!!! They have some 16 dates scheduled for their Bob and David in Hooray for America tour, most of which are already on sale. Check Ticketmaster for more information (search for “Mr Show”). They will be appearing September 24th at the Orpheum Theatre here in Boston. Needless to say, I already have my tickets. I’m so excited!!! I can’t even tell you.

On June 20th, Bob and David will be appearing on both the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. I know that David is a huge fan of the Daily Show. Bob and Conan both wrote for Saturday Night Live during the 1987-1991 seasons (and they both won the Emmy in 1989, but lost in 1990 and 1991), so they’re old buddies. They have done a number of things together, including some projects with Robert Smigel. Plus, both Jon and Conan have been featured on an episode of Mr. Show. The point is, this should make for some good television, so don’t forget to set your Tivo.

The real question I have is, what are they plugging? I’m assuming that it’s the new Mr. Show DVD, but I’m crossing my fingers hoping that they’re going to announce something about Run Ronnie Run being released in theaters at some point. That’s not so likely, but a guy can hope.
